Mrs. Kerstin Oka is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate under the clinical supervision of Dr. Tonya Peavy-Mays, LPC-S, PLP. Kerstin started her journey into the counseling field by receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology from Texas A&M University. Afterwards, she headed to Sam Houston State University, where she received her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

She became interested in counseling after seeing her mother, a counselor herself, help inspire others to grow and become the best version of themselves. Following in her footsteps, she believes in helping each client find their inner strength and become the person they want to be. Kerstin understands and acknowledges that each person that walks through her door has their own unique story to tell, challenges to face, and aspirations to strive for - and will be there to collaborate with each client every step of the way.

In her practice, Kerstin utilizes a combination of Person-Centered and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This unique blend allows her to both validate her clients and understand where they are coming from while also pushing them to challenge unhelpful thought patterns and learn new skills to build healthier habits. While these are her main modalities, she believes in using techniques from many different approaches in order to find the right fit for each client. She enjoys working with a diverse age range, supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and adults through challenges like anxiety, life transitions, and self-discovery.
